Karl B. Apelgren is a dedicated educator, counselor, and executive function coach with over 15 years of experience empowering students to reach their potential. A champion of opportunity and access, he specializes in helping young people build the skills, confidence, and direction needed to succeed in school and beyond. Karl is a trusted advisor, leader, and advocate, supporting students (and their families) through the college preparation and application process.

Originally from Australia, Karl moved to the United States in 2004 and became the first in his family to complete both undergraduate and graduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Education, from Curtin University of Technology and CUNY Brooklyn College, respectively. His background, shaped by his family’s immigrant roots, drives his belief that education unlocks social and economic mobility.

Beyond his work as a college admissions consultant on the Powered by Scholar Co. team, Karl serves as a certified Guidance Counselor and School Training Specialist, supporting a diverse student population, leading social-emotional programming, and providing professional development to educators. He also works as an executive function coach, helping students develop organization, time management, planning, and self-regulation skills. He brings this distinct combination of broad pedagogical knowledge and specific expertise supporting students individually to his college advising work.

Above all, Karl is most passionate about college preparation and post–high school planning, helping students and families navigate the transition from high school with purpose. He is committed to building inclusive, engaging learning environments and ensuring every student has a clear path to success.
